Psychological Problems That Are Caused Due To Baldness

Thousands of women as well as men who suffer from baldness feel humiliated by it and suffer from other associated physiological conditions including self-worthlessness and depression. Baldness also increases the stress levels in these individuals.

Men often feel like they have suffered a loss of masculinity when they get bald. Others feel a reduced sense of security as it serves as a constant reminder that they are indeed growing older. Most men who are bald suffer from acute lack of confidence when going about in public. They also often feel that perhaps their wives would not be attracted to them any more. They are very conscious of their baldness and suspect that their baldness is the first thing that other people notice about them. For women too, hair loss and impending baldness is severely disturbing and could turn out to be the one of the most stressful phases of their lives.

Baldness is often considered a major hindrance in many fields, especially in workplaces where appearances count including those of lawyers, accountants and salesmen. Take a look around you and you will find that most people who are successful in these fields and other related careers are not bald. The common perception of a successful executive is someone who has hair, so, very often bald men find it very difficult to reach the top rung of the ladder if they are pursuing these kinds of careers. It is of course a completely different story if the person in question turned bald after having reached a certain stage in his career. Unfortunately, more often than not, male-pattern baldness commences at a very young age.

For women, going bald presents an even more disastrous scenario. A woman who is bald is inadvertently considered abnormal in the workplace. If a career woman does go bald, whether it is due to medical, hereditary or any other reason, she is instinctively expected to go about wearing a wig. And most women do comply with these expectations, whether they agree with them or not.

So how exactly is a person expected to cope with the devastating psychological problems that she or he obviously faces when they become bald?

Fortunately, modern medicine and advanced technology offer new techniques that are very successful in delaying the onset of baldness. It is important to remember that it is only by learning all you can about the underlying causes of baldness that preventive steps can be successfully taken. There are several different types of treatments that are available for preventing and curing baldness. The earlier the treatment is started, the more successful you can expect it to be.

Having spoken about the embarrassment and humiliation of going bald, take a look at some of the more successful personalities who are bald and have not suffered any adverse ratings in the popularity charts. Personalities such as Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Ben Kingsley, Andre Agassi, Zinedane Zidane and John Reid are considered as attractive and sexy as any other person with hair. What’s more they wear their baldness well and have even promoted it. Women celebrities including Sinead O’Connor and Kylie Minogue are bald due to different reasons but nonetheless they are not shy of it. So stop being embarrassed about your baldness and go live it up. Being bald is in vogue these days.
