Female Pattern Baldness

The number of women who suffer from hair loss and baldness is far less as compared to men who go bald. However, it is not that women do not ever get bald. There are a few women who are affected by hair loss and when they do, it is called female pattern baldness. Society, for some strange reason seems to accept men who are bald more readily than it accepts women who are bald. In a woman, the thickness and length of her hair is a measure of her beauty and the longer and thicker her hair, the more her beauty is enhanced. Moreover, long hair gives women the opportunity to change their appearance by experimenting with different hairstyles.

If a woman finds she is losing some amount of hair continuously and beginning to show signs of baldness even though there is no apparent reason, it could be due to hereditary or genetic reasons. There are also several other reasons why women lose their hair.

* Undue stress coupled with lack of adequate rest and relaxation could one of many reasons that bring about female pattern baldness.

* Eating meals at any time as well as maintaining an unbalanced diet could be some of the other reasons for the onset of baldness in women.

* Female pattern baldness may also be caused when a woman has high fever for prolonged periods of time, especially when it is associated with particular kinds of ailments. Typhoid fever and scarlet fever are just two examples of ailments that have been known to cause hair loss and baldness in women.

* Many women also suffer from hair loss if they are undernourished or if their endocrine is not working as efficiently as it should.

* Few women also suffer from excessive hair loss and baldness during the menopause stage. This type of hair loss is hereditary and can be expected to happen if her mother had undergone a similar experience and also suffered from hair loss during menopause.

* Ringworms, bacterial attacks and fungal infections have also been found to have a direct bearing on hair loss. However, hair loss that is caused by these attacks can easily be treated and cured with a course of appropriate drugs.

* Permanent hair loss can also be brought about by exposure to radiotherapy, X-rays, chemotherapy or UV-radiation.

* Sometimes one comes across women who do not have hair on any part of their body including their head, eyebrows and eyelashes. This condition is called Alopecia universalis and researchers have yet to ascertain what the causes of this ailment are.

Different Conditions of Female Pattern Baldness

A second common condition that causes hair loss and baldness in women is known as Telogen effluvium. In this condition, thinning of the hair is caused by stress that has been brought about by some trauma. The normal growth cycle of hair gets affected by this undue stress. Pregnancy is one of the conditions that would come under this category.
